How to Know your Body Type

It is very important to know and understand about your body and its type before starting the exercise, gym etc. In this world, every human body is born with some inherited body type based on body composition and skeletal frame. So here, we have unique combinations of the three body types as almost 95% of the people’s body type has it i.e ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph.

Now, let’s see and understand each body type one by one.

Ectomorphs

Ectomorphs are those who have lean and long body type, with little body fat, and little muscle. It is very hard for them to put on some weight. Examples like fashion models and basketball players fit in this category. While it has been observed that most of us love to hate these genetically-blessed individuals whereas some male ectomorphs may not be excited with their narrow-chested frames, and some female ectomorphs who have slender waists, narrow hips and shoulders, small joints, and long legs and arms. They tend to be slim, without much body fat or noticeable muscle mass.

Endomorphs

On the other hand, Endomorphs are those who have lots of body fat, muscles and they tend to gain weight easily. They look heavier and rounder individuals. Also, they have a wider waist and hips with larger bones, though they may or may not be overweight. Their weight is often in their hips, thighs, and lower abdomen. Endomorphs often have lots of body fat and muscle and tend to gain weight easily.

Mesomorphs

Mesomorphs are the best amongst all the body type because they have athletic, solid, and strong body. They are not overweight and not underweight. Also, they can eat what they want without worrying too much about it. They can easily gain and lose weight without too much efforts.

Now there is one more body type which is a combination of ecto-endomorphs with thin, delicate upper bodies and high fat storage on the hips and thighs side, and apple-shaped endo-ectomorphs, with high fat storage in the mid-section and thin lower bodies.

So, what is your body type? Always remember that these ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph body types are non-categorical, and one might possess some or all types in some form or combination without even knowing it, therefore do not get stuck up on which combination of body type is yours rather focus on which one stands out close and work off that.

Now question arises, which diet and exercises to follow for my body type?

After determining the body type, it’s important to build the best fitness and nutrition program for yourself and your goals as per the following points.

Ectomorph Body Type

Muscle Building for Ectomorph Body Type is quite difficult due to their high metabolism rate and if it’s not monitored on time then it can cause severe physical abnormalities also, such as a skinny frame with a potbelly, or a skinny body with arm bags.

Since, this is the most efficient body type with little fat, it does not mean that it cannot store fat, in fact, as this body type ages it begins to store fat at a higher rate than the other body types.

Now Ectomorph Diet and Nutrition – Ectomorphs body type must take high amount of good carbs and protein (click here to know more) with moderate to low amounts of healthy fats should be included in an ectomorph diet. As far as the number of meals in an ectomorph diet is concerned an ectomorph can afford to eat 5 to 6 meals per day with lots of fruits and dry fruits.

Ectomorph Fitness – High intensity weightlifting on a 5-6 day split with minimal to no cardio is recommended for an ectomorph. Cardio will only hinder this body type’s ability to build muscle.

 Endomorph body type

Endomorphs are those who are already loaded with lots of body fat, muscles and they tend to gain more weight easily with heavier look.

Endomorph Diet and Nutrition – Endomorphs have slow metabolism that’s why it is important for them to monitor their diet and food intake accordingly. Therefore, it is recommended that they should get stick to high amounts of protein with low amounts of carbs with fruits for an endomorph diet.

For the endomorph diet, carbohydrates in the diet that come from white bread, white rice, pastry, sugary sodas, and other highly processed foods are especially bad for the endomorph body type and need to be avoided as much as possible.

As far as the number of meals in the diet is concerned, an endomorph should focus on sticking to three meals per day with minimal snacks in between with intermittent fasting.

Endomorph Fitness – For an endomorph body type high amounts of HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) and cardio training (in addition to diet) is recommended by the experts to cut down the unwanted fat with moderate increasing bouts of weight training to build muscle as they progress.

Endomorph body type should more focus on Building lean muscle mass, losing body fat and Speeding up the metabolism rate. Recommended exercises are Squats with overhead press, Lunges with lateral raise, Push-ups with knee drives, Planks with triceps dumbbell extensions.

Mesomorph Body Type

Since Mesomorphs body type are the best and may say genetically blessed. So, Diet, nutrition and fitness can be somewhat on an experimental basis because mesomorph body type does not find any difficulty in building and maintaining muscle mass and can therefore try new things.

Mesomorph Diet and Nutrition – A mesomorph body type can focus on eating a more balanced diet of carbs, healthy fats, and proteins with as many as 4-5 meals per day with lots of fruits and dry fruits.

Mesomorph Fitness – Mesomorphs should focus on a 4-5 split of weight training mixed in with small worth of cardio sessions to help control muscle growth and reduce fat build-up.

So, priority is to know your body type and once you have determined it, you can then start taking the necessary steps to lose the fat and build the muscle mass you want and deserve.
